Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) was a visionary Japanese-American artist and designer whose work spanned sculpture, furniture, landscape architecture, and lighting design. Known for blending Eastern and Western influences, his creations range from the iconic Noguchi Coffee Table to the ethereal Akari Light Sculptures, inspired by traditional Japanese lanterns. Noguchi’s designs are celebrated for their organic forms, minimalism, and ability to harmonize art with functionality. His public art and landscapes, such as the Noguchi Garden in California, reflect his innovative approach to space and material. 2021 saw a popular retrospective at The Barbican art gallery which included the conservatory being filled with his paper light sculptures.
