After graduating in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1945, he quickly gained recognition for his innovative and functional designs. Magistretti was known for his minimalist and rationalist approach, often focusing on simplicity and functionality.

Throughout his prolific career, he collaborated with renowned design firms such as Artemide and Cassina, contributing iconic pieces like the Eclisse lamp and the Carimate chair. Magistretti received numerous awards, including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro, and his work is celebrated for its timeless elegance and thoughtful design solutions that continue to inspire contemporary designers worldwide.
