MR10 Chair, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in the 1960s.

Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969) was a pioneering modernist architect, known for his minimalist approach and the phrase "less is more". Born in Germany, he became the final director of the Bauhaus before emigrating to the U.S. in 1937. His designs, characterised by clean lines, open spaces, and innovative use of steel and glass, include the Barcelona Pavilion (1929), Farnsworth House (1951), and the Seagram Building (1958). Mies played a key role in shaping modern architecture, influencing generations with his emphasis on simplicity.
