Richard Young was a British furniture designer known for his work at G Plan and as the co-founder of Merrow Associates. His designs, which blended Danish influences with high end materials, remain highly sought after today.

Young studied at the Royal College of Art under Ron Carter before continuing his training in Copenhagen with the renowned Danish designer and professor Ole Wanscher. His early career included a period at G Plan (1961–1963), where he designed several ranges, including the 'Young Ideas' bedroom collection. However, his designs were not widely promoted and did not achieve commercial success at the time, likely due to their modern aesthetic being ahead of mainstream British tastes.

In 1964, Young co-founded Merrow Associates, a company that specialised in luxury furniture featuring a distinctive combination of rosewood, glass, and chrome. His designs embodied a sophisticated, high-end style that contrasted sharply with his earlier G Plan work. Merrow Associates pieces were sold through prestigious retailers such as Harrods, Heal’s, and Oscar Woollens, as well as in high-end showrooms across the UK, the USA, and Europe. Their furniture was featured in private homes, corporate offices, and celebrity residences, including the famous chair designed for comedian Ronnie Corbett.
