Scheurich was one of the leading West German ceramics manufacturers during the midcentury period, known for its bold, innovative designs. Founded in 1927 by Alois Scheurich, the company initially produced household ceramics before shifting focus to decorative pottery in the 1950s and 1960s, becoming a key player in the era’s "Fat Lava" movement. 

Scheurich's midcentury ceramics are characterised by fluid, organic forms, thick lava-like glazes, and vibrant colour schemes, including fiery reds, deep oranges, and earthy browns. Unlike some of its contemporaries, Scheurich focused on affordability and accessibility, producing high-quality, textured vases and planters at scale. The company’s designs often featured abstract patterns and tactile surfaces, achieved through innovative glazing techniques that defined the West German ceramic aesthetic of the time. 

Scheurich remains one of the most recognisable names in midcentury ceramics, with its vintage pieces highly sought after by collectors. The company continues to operate today, adapting its designs to modern tastes while maintaining a link to its midcentury heritage.
